Why is it that there's no fanart category for non-manga comics?

This is a painting I did in art class. The character is Death from The Sandman series. I noticed that she seemed to be shown like this quite a lot, so I decided to paint it as practice (black and white paintings are pretty easy, so I figured it would be a good way to get used to the medium). I used a reference from the comics, so, while I did take some artistic liberties, I can't really take credit for the pose.

This was done on an 8x10in canvas. The way that the canvases were packaged left them kinda bent in on themselves, so hopefully that doesn't screw with the painting too much. Also, this painting spent a couple months in my window and got just a little dusty...I got most of it off but if there are any odd specks on the picture that's what it is.

My scanner likes black and white pictures very much. Now if only I could get it to show the same enthusiasm for pencil...
